The Haiti Hotel School (l’Ecole Hôtelière d’Haïti) has a new director, Sandra Tanis.

The school, which relaunched at the end of 2011, is trying to improve the capacity of Haiti’s still-fledgling hospitality sector.

“We are in the process of upgrading the Haiti Hotel School,” Tanis said in a statement. “The obligations are enormous to attain the vital results for this sector.”

Improving the school will be crucial as Haiti seeks not only to develop the sector but help fill slots at the increasing number of hotels in the country.

Tanis said she hoped for the cooperation and support of the sector to help make the institution “a school of choice.”

Tanis had previously worked for American Airlines as a financial coordinator.
