Officials from the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Treasury will be visiting the British Virgin Islands from Dec. 9 to Dec. 12 for a “familiarization visit.”

The trip comes at the invitation of British Virgin Islands Premier Dr Orlando Smith.

“This familiarization visit will put the UK government in a better position to effectively advocate the interests of the Virgin Islands and its people,” Smith said in a statement. “The regular discourse and strong partnership between Her Majesty’s government and the government of the Virgin Islands are expected to be further enhanced by this visit.”

The UK officials will hold talks with senior public officials and industry leaders in the British Virgin Islands.

The government said the visit would give the UK “an understanding of the BVI and the role it plays in the region, and globally.”
