South Florida music legend Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell has officially launched his own rum brand, “Uncle Luke’s Rum.”

The first of what will be a series of imported rums is “Passion Fruit,” manufactured by Grenada Distillers Limited, the largest distillery in Grenada.

Campbell, a Miami area native, rose to fame as the architect of the “Miami Bass” hip-hop style and helping bring 2 Live Crew to national prominence. He also ran Luke Records, one of the first large hip-hop labels in the southern United States.

The rum is launching exclusively to the South Florida market, although the company said it expected to release it to additional markets by the end of 2013.

“Luther Campbell is a longstanding Rum connoisseur, which makes Uncle Luke’s Rum a long overdue venture,” the company said in a release.
