Tobago has received a $100,000 allocation from the Inter-American Development Bank for a renewable energy programme, according to Natacha Marzolf, who heads the IDB’s team on green energy.

Marzolf recently visited Tobago for talks with representatives from the Tobago House of Assembly, including Chief Secretary Orville London, to see proposed sites for sustainable energy projects.

London proposed installing solar lighting on the islands of Little Tobago and Goat Island, along with potentially using solar energy to provide hot water at the new Scarborough General Hospital and the Speyside High School.

According to London, once the projects are agreed upon and the cost is determined, the House of Assembly will commit itself partially to funding the programme.
