Panama President Ricardo Martinelli has arrived in Trinidad and Tobago for the Caribbean Investment Forum in Port of Spain, which begins Monday.

Martinelli is the conference’s keynote speaker, and will present to the forum information on Panama’s economic achievements and potential investment opportunities.

Martinelli said Panama’s presence at the event was a sample of Panama’s commercial interests in the Caribbean.

Panama and Trinidad, which established diplomatic relations in 1994, signed an energy agreement in March to promote the supply of butane, gasoline and diesel to Panama.

The agreement also includes the purchase of natural gas by Panama.

The two countries have also begun talks on the potential signing of a partial scope trade agreement, along with a separate agreement on investment and services.

Martinelli is leading a Panamanian delegation that includes Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Jose Pacheco. He arrived in Trinidad on Sunday.

He will be in Trinidad for two days.
