Following last week’s carnival celebrations in Jacmel, Haiti is readying for its national carnival Sunday in the city of Les Cayes.

The carnival celebration, which draws Haitians from around the country and from across the Diaspora, will last until Feb. 21.

On Friday, when President Michel Martelly’s motorcade was attacked at a visit near the University of Haiti, Martelly had been walking with a pre-carnival procession.

Les Cayes, one of the country’s major port towns, is located in southwestern portion of the country.
