Nevis to Continue Green Energy Push

Nevis will continue to make a push on green energy in 2012, Premier Joseph Parry said yesterday.

The island has made strides in renewables in the last few years, both in the wind sector and in geothermal, the latter of which will remain a priority, he said.

“Geothermal continues to be on the agenda for the Nevis Island Administration, and this natural energy source will be pursued vigorously as an alternative to fossil fuel,” he said. “We will continue to work steadfastly on the [geothermal] project, and it is important to note that the region is very interested in Nevis getting the energy.”

Nevis’ wind farm, operated by WindWatt, was the first in the OECS.
