Nestled on the northwest edge of South America, Guyana can get easily lost in the regional headlines.
There’s the seemingly endless political tension with western neighbor Venezuela. Brazil, to the south, is a mammoth in comparative size and tourism allure. And Guyana itself, has been generationally regarded with caution, having gained independence from the United Kingdom less than 60 years ago. While it’s technically in South America, it’s long been the seat of CARICOM, the Caribbean Community, and has deep cultural and social ties to the rest of the Caribbean region.
