Grenada Distilleries Step Up to Make Hand Sanitizer

By: Dana Niland - April 6, 2020

A group of distilleries in Grenada has stepped up to the plate to produce hand sanitizer amid the island’s fight against coronavirus.

Doing their part to help residents stay safe, Grenada Distillers Limited, Blue Light Gin and Westerhall Estate, Grenada have each started production of hand sanitizer for local distribution.

Parent company of the destination’s popular Clark’s Court rum, Grenada Distillers Limited’s efforts
began with the production of 1,200 cases of sanitizing solution, which were made available island-wide at all supermarkets and pharmacies.

Hand sanitizer donations were also made to various senior citizens’ and children’s homes.

The company also worked with the nation’s government to ensure donations made it to the Grenada Bus Association, Royal Grenada Police Force Traffic Department, prison and other law enforcement entities.

Blue Light Gin, which is headquartered at La Phare Bleu resort, halted production of the destination’s only micro-distillery of hand-crafted gin to start production of aloe vera-infused hand sanitizer on March 24, creating as many as 100 bottles per day.

The bottles are available for purchase directly at the factory.

Late last month, the family-owned Westerhall Estate halted rum production for the first time since 1766, in order to shift to the production of hand sanitizer.

In just the first few days of production, the company produced approximately 14,000 bottles of the solution and donated them to prisons, medical facilities, police stations and assisted living homes.

Westerhall Estate also announced that hand sanitizer will become a permanent fixture on their product line.
