The historic charm of Charlotte Amalie (and its buzzing new boutique hotel). Sparkling white-sand beaches like Lindquist and Magens Bay. World-class eateries like Blue 11.
It’s no surprise that the USVI’s island of St Thomas is one of the most popular places to visit in the Caribbean right now, and now it’s risen right to the top of the Caribbean market.
St Thomas is the top trending destination in the wider Caribbean for summer travel, according to a new report from travel giant Expedia.
St Thomas is the top trending summer getaway in the region based on hotel and accommodation searches, the company shared in a report provided to Caribbean Journal.
In fact, St Thomas searches are up 45 percent compared to last year, ahead of another top Caribbean hotspot San Juan, where searches are up 35 percent in the same period.
It’s a testament to the destination’s continued growth, amid a renaissance that largely began in the heart of the pandemic.
That’s borne out in the numbers.
Tourism arrivals for St Thomas in the 2023-2024 winter season are projected to rise by 20 percent, USVI Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte told Caribbean Journal.
Overall, air arrivals are expected to grow by 28 percent for the US Virgin Islands at large, compared to the same period in 2023.
