Former Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo hit the big leagues in another sport on Thursday when he teed off in the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship on Thursday, the first-ever PGA Tour event in the Dominican Republic.

Romo, who has long been a talented golfer, received a sponsor’s exemption to play in the event in Punta Cana.

The Corales course.

Romo, who now serves as an NFL analyst on CBS Sports’ NFL broadcasts, has a current handicap of +0.3.

Romo’s presence was a publicity boost for the tournament, however, which had also tapped a number of onetime golfing greats from John Daly to Angel Cabrera to Retief Goosen for its first edition.

While Romo was not expected to make the cut, he was at even par through his first nine holes on Thursday morning, with three birdies.

His second nine was a different story, however, with Romo peppering his card with bogeys to finish with a five-over 75 on the day.
