What’s New in St Barth

While the island of St Barth has carved out a coveted niche at the top of the Caribbean’s luxury market, the French Caribbean gem is always innovating.

“We are excited to start the New Year with a host of new culinary options and renovated accommodations on the island,” shares Nils Dufau, president of of the Tourism Bureau of St Barth. “From updated ocean-view villa suites to a recently-opened French fusion restaurant, it’s clear why many view St. Barts as a small slice of France in the tropics.”

So what’s new? It’s mostly in the island’s sought-after hotel sector.

Indeed, the last few years have seen a wave of renovations and new offerings at some of the island’s top hotels.

That began with the debut of LVMH’s Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France hotel, followed by two major renovations: Hotel Le Toiny, which reopened in November after extensive renovations to the hotel’s 15 ocean-view villa suites and its public spaces (a project that also saw the rebranding of the former Le Gaiac restaurant); and Le Guanahani, which completed a $40 million, four-year renovation.

The latter now offers 67 rooms, 27 of which are suites, and a “full-service boutique” environment.

One thing that hasn’t changed? The “thrilling” landing at the airport. But it’s always worth it for one of the region’s rarest travel experiences.
