This Jamaican Beach Just Got Upgraded

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 8, 2016

One of the most beautiful beaches on Jamaica’s north coast has gotten a new look.

Burwood Beach, located in Falmouth, Trelawny, was upgraded at a cost of around $232,000 USD by Jamaica’s Tourism Enhancement Fund. There is also a plan to add some new restaurants and bars to the beach.

The facility is heavily used by local Jamaicans, cruise passengers and guests at nearby resorts like the Royalton.

Jamaica Tourism Minister Dr Wykeham McNeill said the upgrading was part of a wider plan to identify and upgrade some of the best beaches in Jamaica.

Work has already started on 16 of 30 beaches identified under that project.

There must be a program that protects the opportunities of Jamaicans to truly enjoy their country, and that is what the beaches programme of the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) is all about,” McNeill said.
