Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands Shaken By 4.5-Magnitude Earthquake

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake caused light to moderate shaking across Puerto Rico on Tuesday evening, according to data from the United States Geological Survey.

The quake struck at a depth of 39 kilometres at around 11:05 PM local time.

Its epicentre was around 47 kilometres north of the island of Culebra, and about 52 kilometres northwest of Charlotte Amalie in the United States Virgin Islands.

The quake was felt as far as the Virgin Islands, with reports of shaking in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and in St John, St Croix St Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands.

In a statement, the National Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no tsunami danger to the area.

There were not yet reports of any damage or injuries resulting of the quake, although there were a number of reports of shaking.
