Melia is the latest international brand looking toward Cartagena on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.

The company announced Wednesday that it would be opening a new hotel in Cartagena, the Melia Cartagena de Indias.

The property would be the company’s fourth hotel in Colombia.

It will be developed by BASKARIBEÑA DE SERVICIOS and PROMOTORA KARMAIRI.

“For us, working on a project with so much potential together with Meliá, who we feel is the ideal operator thanks to their extensive experience in luxury resorts around the world, provides us with significant peace of mind and confidence in everyone that forms part of the project,” said Mauricio Martinez, CEO of PROMOTORA KARMAIRI. “‘s real a challenge to create such an innovative concept focused on wellness and relaxation to meet the needs of an emerging market with high future potential growth in a strong tourist destination such as Cartagena.”

The hotel will include 154 rooms, a “destination restaurant,” a buffet restaurant, a bar, a spa and a beach club, along with meetings and event space.

It will be located near to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Karibana golf course.
