A new exhibition at Haiti’s Musée du Panthéon National Haïtien (MUPANAH) explores the relationship between the US state of Louisiana and Haiti.

The exhibit, “The Ties That Bind” will be open to the public through June 6. It features works by noted Haitian-American painter Ulrick Jean-Pierre.

“The exhibit tells the story of the deep cultural and historical ties between Haiti and the state of Louisiana in the USA,” the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince said in a post on social media.

The paintings, which were commissioned by the United States Embassy in Haiti, have been donated to MUPANAH “so they can be shown throughout Haiti for years to come.”

Jean-Pierre, one of the world’s most famous artists of Haiti, is best known for his paintings of Haitian historical figures, including Toussaint Louverture and King Henri-Christophe.
