The Grenada Airports Authority has officially opened the first fixed-base operator facility at the country’s Maurice Bishop International Airport.

The facility, which will cater to business general aviation services and airline first class and premium passengers, launched operations last month.

The facility is owned and operated by IAM Caribbean, a regional aviation handling firm, which operates in 24 airports in the Caribbean.

“Grenada sits on the southern end of the spectacular Grenadine Islands / Tobago Cays and has a rich yachting culture,” said Paul Worrell, IAM Group Managing Director. “Increasing numbers of luxury super yachts make use of the excellent marinas on the island – such as Camper Nicholson’s world class facility at Port Louis. Our new FBO will provide the passengers joining these premium yachts and those visiting the island’s exclusive five-star resorts and properties with an equally elegant experience at the airport.”

In a statement, Grenada Tourism Minister Alexandra Otway-Noel said the country would continue to “find new ways to develop MBIA to exceed the expectation of our visitors.”
