Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has dismissed Minister of the People and Social Development Dr Glen Ramadharsingh, she announced on Tuesday.
The move came in response to reports of a disturbance on a Caribbean Airlines flight last week by Ramadharsingh involving a female flight attendant.
“While I was overseas attending a funeral of a family friend I received reports of an incident concerning the Honourable Minister of the People, Dr.Glen Ramadharsingh,” Persad-Bissessar said in a statement. “Upon my return I requested reports from the said Minister and the relevant authorities. Having read these reports and after meeting with the Minister I have arrived at a decision on the way forward.”
Accordingly, Persad-Bissessar said she had advised Trinidad and Tobago President Anthony Carmona to revoke Ramadharsingh’s appointment.
It is the latest shakeup for Trinidad’s government, which has undergone a number of reshuffles and reassignments in the last few years.
Glen Ramadharsingh is the Member of Parliament for Caroni Central in Trinidad.
