Martinique will soon play host to the region’s first-ever conference on Caribbean Sports Tourism.

The Caribbean Sport Tourism Conference will be held from Jan. 23 to Jan. 24 at the Institut Martiniquais du Sport in the Mango Vulcin area of Lamentin.

The two-day conference will include roundtables, workshops and discussions, aiming to present a “clearer picture of this strong tend in the tourism market and practical knowledge on the theme,” according to organizers.

The conference is being presented by CSport Magazine, also based in Martinique.

“This conference is about demonstrating the power of sport tourism as a sustainable niche for the Caribbean,” said Stephan Carnier, the Editor of CSport Magazine, who is organizing the conference. “This is the first edition, but the objective is to travel around the Caribbean to demonstrate how Sport Tourism could contribute in tourism development. Creating jobs, activities and opportunities for all.”

The Institut Martiniquais du Sport was officially inaugurated in October by Serge Letchimy, the President of Martinique’s Regional Council, with the aim of developing sports policy, including sports tourism policy.

The conference says it is expecting a combination of both sports and tourism professionals.
