Puerto Rico was lightly shaken by a 3.7-magnitude earthquake on Friday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake’s epicentre was about 4 kilometres from Loiza on the northeastern coast, and about 26 kilometres from San Juan.

There were reports of weak to light shaking across the island, from the far southwestern coast to the east coast.

The quake was felt as far away as Cabo Rojo, about 173 kilometres away from the epicentre.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

The Caribbean is a seismically active region, and has regularly seen earthquakes of similar magnitude over the last few years.
