Shequanda Felix vows that she will continue working to better her performance as one of Grenada’s brightest young track and field stars.

Grenadians, too, are beginning to see her promise, with one member of the Diaspora making a donation to support Felix, a student of South St George Government in Springs.

Clevoy Depradine, a Grenadian national living in Long Island, New York, has sent Felix a track suit, spikes and several other athletic accessories.

Depradine, a former captain of Republic Bank Angel Harps Steel Orchestra, was in Grenada during this year’s athletic season and witnessed Felix’s showing in the 100, 200 and 400 metres.

The donation was officially made on Depradine’s behalf by Labour Minister Glynis Roberts, herself a former student at South St George Government.

“I want to encourage other Grenadians in the diaspora to continue providing support,” Roberts said. “It may not be in athletics, but in other areas, to help us develop our tri-island nation.”

Roberts was joined by Davis Adams, principal of South St George Government, who called Felix a “wonderful talent,” who could “reach the highest level in sports,” like the country’s leading star, Kirani James.

James will be leading Grenada’s Olympic hopes this year in London.

Felix is one of four primary school athletes who will be representing Grenada at the Caribbean Union of Teachers’ Games in the Bahamas in July.
