As part of a continued push to strengthen its working relationship with Grenadians living abroad, the government recently met with returning nationals in Carriacou.

Grenada, which is preparing for Grenadian Homecoming in August 2012, last month launched the International Diaspora Consultative Committee, an initiative first adopted at the Grenada Diaspora Founding Conference in St George’s.

Present at the Carriacou meeting was Derek James, Grenada’s Consul General in New York, who said the diaspora played a critical role in nation building.

According to James, there are over 60 Grenadian groups and organizations in the New York area.

Senator George Prime, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, said the current administration “recognized the importance” of the diaspora, and would work to utilize the skills, resources and experiences of nationals living abroad.
