Demand for Barbados Travel Is Hotter Than Ever

By: Alexander Britell - September 11, 2023

It’s about to get a whole lot easier to fly to Barbados from the United States, as the Caribbean island readies for a big uptick in travel from America.

The island is “poised for an upsurge in airlift” from the US by the end of 2023, tourism officials said in a statement, as demand for the island reaches new heights.

“Barbados continues to be a top travel destination among the US market,” said Eusi Skeete, US director for Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.

The key is a significant increase in flights for the upcoming winter season, headlined by the addition of a third daily nonstop flight between Miami and Barbados between Dec. 20 and April 3, 2024.

But that’s just the beginning. .

On Dec. 7, American Airlines will kick off a daily flight from Charlotte to Barbados; JetBlue is extending its doubling of service between New York and Barbados to February 2024; and United Airlines will be operating year-round flights from Dulles International in Washington, DC beginning on Oct. 30.

United is also introducing year-round service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Barbados beginning at the end of this month.

That service was actually slated to begin in November; increased demand for the route has it starting three months ahead of schedule, however, on Sept. 30.

“BTMI remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders and partners to meet the surging demand for travel between the US and Barbados,” the organization said.

The new Sam Lord’s Castle all-inclusive is opening later this year.

The new flights come as Barbados concludes a jam-packed summer of popular events, including its popular Crop Over festival, and readies for its renowned Barbados Food and Rum Festival in October.

The island is also set to welcome a major new luxury resort to the island this year, with the debut of Wyndham’s highly-anticipated new Sam Lord’s Castle all-inclusive resort, one that will be the largest resort in Barbados.

Barbados, in other words, is sizzling.
