A Former Pirate Castle Will Become Barbados’ Newest All-Inclusive

The centerpiece of the resort is a 200-year-old pirate castle.

Built two centuries ago, it began its life as a pirate’s castle.

Now, it’s set to become one of the most sought-after all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean.

The legendary Sam Lord’s Castle is slated to open its doors later this year as the first Wyndham Grand Resort in the Caribbean.

The new all-inclusive resort will be a striking mix of history and contemporary Caribbean cool, with a total of 422 rooms that will actually make it the single-largest resort in Barbados. Right now, the resort doesn’t have a fixed opening date, but it is planning a 2023 debut.

The property will include multiple eateries, copious meeting space to the tune of 12,000 square feet and a destination spa.

It’s part of a broader all-inclusive push by Wyndham that has until now focused on its Alltra brand in the Mexican Caribbean (and, soon, in the Dominican Republic).

The beachfront resort will include a mix of rooms and suites, with an emphasis on size: even the smallest rooms will have a minimum of 650 square feet of space, including ocean-view lanai-style private balconies.

The culinary program will include 10 different food and beverage concepts, including a “food hall” with four different restaurants; the Lantern Bar and Restaurant; the Castle View Restaurant; a swim-up pool bar, a beach bar and a “barbecue pavilion.”

The signature Spa at Sam Lord’s Castle will have seven treatment rooms, a hair salon, a juice bar, a fitness center, a dedicated spa pool and a relaxation deck, with tremens training from skincare to pedicures and body treatments.

The beach will naturally be a big focus: the resort will have everything from beach and pool concierge service to a classic beach bar and restaurant, along with both beach loungers and pool cabanas.

The family-friendly resort will also include a kid’s club, babysitting and nanny services, a dedicated children’s pool and custom family concierge services.

The resort is on the beach on the southeastern coast of the island.

That’s along with in-room dining.

It’s a significant addition to the southwestern coast of Barbados, a destination that has in recent years been cultivating a new image as the island’s “capital of cool.”

It’s the newest member of what has quietly become one of the more impressive all-inclusive offerings of any island in the Caribbean, from the beloved The Club, Barbados resort to the Bougainvillea Barbados and the Elegant Hotels collection focused on the Platinum Coast.
