American Airlines, JetBlue Adding More Barbados Flights

By: Alexander Britell - May 28, 2023

Tourism in Barbados is in full bloom as the island climbs its way out of the pandemic, and that means major carriers have their sights set on the destination. That includes American Airlines and JetBlue Airways, both of which are now ramping up service to the island.

This summer, American is launching an additional daily flight between Miami and Barbados between Aug. 15 and Sept. 5, meaning a total of three daily flights between Miami and Barbados during the period.

This winter, American Airline is resuming its service between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Barbados, with daily flights kicking off on Dec. 21.

That route will extend through the peak winter travel season to April 3, 2024, although it will operate five times each week Jan. 8 and March 4.

JetBlue just extended its second daily flight between New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport and Barbados through at least October. That route had been slated to end in September, but thanks to surging demand it has been expanded.

In other words, Barbados is heating up, with the aforementioned flights on American and JetBlue joined by United Airlines’ recent announcement of year-round service to the island from both Washington, DC and Newark.

The wave of new flights are a strong signal of the island’s post-pandemic recovery, particularly as the destination is looking to grow its visitor numbers from the all-important United States market.

Right now, Barbados is readying for a full slate of summer events including the Caribbean’s premier racing event, the Sol Rally Barbados; the endlessly popular Crop Over festival that runs the majority of the summer; and the highly-anticipated Barbados Food and Rum Festival.

Several Barbados resorts are also offering special programs to encourage summer travel, including one of the island’s top all-inclusive resorts, The Club, Barbados
