Grand Bahama Is Getting a New Airport

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 2, 2023

Grand Bahama is getting its long-awaited new airport terminal.

Grand Bahama Airport has officially announced the transformation of its international airport terminal, according to The Bahamas’ Ministry of Tourism.

United Orca Construction Company has been awarded the contract on the project, with work set to begin in the first quarter of this year.

The new operator for the airport will include a consortium of Bahamians and a “world-class international airport operator,” according to Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism Minister Chester Cooper.

Grand Bahama also just reopened its domestic terminal, following a complete renovation to repair extensive damages suffered during Hurricane Dorian back in 2019.

The hope is to help buoy a new tourism renaissance in Grand Bahama, which has already recovered 80 percent of its pre-pandemic tourism levels.
