In Aruba, a Celebration of Art and Cultural Rebirth

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - October 2, 2022

Aruba’s city of San Nicolas has been undergoing a dramatic renaissance in recent years, turning a town that was once far off the tourist map into a new kind of cultural capital

Much of that rebirth has been the result of a burgeoning art movement, with myriad murals, concept stores and artists’ workshops filling up the city’s streets.

And now for the fifth time, San Nicolas is celebrating its cultural awakening with the Aruba Art Fair, set for Nov. 4-6.

The three-day event is a showcase of Aruba’s hottest artists and artwork, with nearly 200 exhibitors expected and hopes for more than 10,000 visitors.

Visitors can explore San Nicolas’ top galleries, with a mix of local and international art; an “art fashion” event; a range of local artisans displaying their wares; and outdoor galleries right on the streets of San Nicolas, with live local music.

“We are looking forward to break all the records,” the event’s organizers said.

It’s a celebration of a new side of Aruba, and a new life for Aruba’s original “Sunrise City.”
