How Marriott Bonvoy Is Becoming More Than “Just a Loyalty Program”

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 25, 2022 - 4:29 pm

For years, Marriott International’s loyalty program has been at the forefront of the travel industry, allowing members to earn points for stays at hotels and resorts, including all-inclusive resorts and premium home rentals, as well as through everyday purchases with co-branded credit cards.

Marriott points were the ultimate currency for booking vacations and an added benefit for frequent business travelers to get some rest and relaxation, particularly in the Caribbean, at resorts large and small across the region.

Recently, though, the company has been adding more and more elements to the program, elevating/expanding Marriott Bonvoy into a travel program and marketplace, giving members access to transformative, eye-opening experiences around the corner and across the globe.

Now far more than just a loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy offers travel insurance, particularly prized since the onset of the pandemic, a partnership with Uber Eats, various credit cards, access to unforgettable experiences – and even NFTs.

The company’s partnership with Allianz Partners, allows Marriott International’s guests residing in the US to insure their domestic and international trips seamlessly when they book on Marriott.com or the Marriott Bonvoy App giving them additional peace of mind.

Marriott Bonvoy Moments, a platform bringing money-can’t-buy experiences to members was relaunched in August 2021 with new and long-standing collaborators. Among the pinch-yourself experiences are VIP access to concerts, culinary experiences, premier sporting events, like the Superbowl and Formula 1, and more.

In a first of its kind collaboration, Marriott Bonvoy has also teamed up with Uber where members can link accounts to earn points toward free nights when ordering food on Uber Eats and requesting select Uber rides in the US.

And then there’s the company new partnership with digital artists like TXREK and JVY, making Marriott Bonvoy one of the first hospitality brands to create its own Non-Fungible Tokens or NFTs, which were unveiled at Art Basel Miami Beach this past December.

All these added benefits make Marriott Bonvoy a well-rounded program for its close to 160 million global members, who continue to love earning and redeeming points at Marriott International’s close to 8,000 hotels in 139 countries and territories. And soon, one additional Marriott Bonvoy venture will expand the earn and redeem opportunities to the high seas with the launch of the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

The ultra-luxe boutique cruise line which is expected to launch this year, recently joined the Marriott Bonvoy program. Planned voyages include exciting ports in the Caribbean.

This recent announcement underscores Marriott Bonvoy’s increasing presence in the ultra-luxe space, complementing its connection with Homes and Villas by Marriott and, more recently, Marriott’s expansive new all-inclusive portfolio.

Marriott Bonvoy has become an enviable player in the loyalty space, particularly in the Caribbean.
