CURACAO — One of the Caribbean’s most forward-thinking airports has debuted another new route.

Curaçao’s Hato International Airport officially welcomed a new nonstop route from Port-au-Prince, Haiti to Curaçao on Tuesday, complete with a water cannon salute.

The new flights will be operating twice weekly between Curaçao and Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint L’Ouverture International Airport on  Thursdays and Sundays.

Ralph Blanchard, CEO of Curaçao Airport Partners.

The welcome contingent was led by Ralph Blanchard, Chief Executive Officer of Curaçao Airport Partners, the operator of Curaçao International Airport.

It’s the first-ever service to Curaçao for Sunrise, and another gateway to the Dutch Caribbean island.

Sunrise is operating Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320 aircraft on the route, with both business and economy seating.

Diana Martis, Airport Communications Officer at CAP, introduces the new service.

The airport, whose latest innovations include a recently installed wing of automated immigration kiosks that are unique in the Caribbean, is in the midst of a significant airport expansion project.
