A secured Caribbean region is a strategic priority for Canada, especially in light of the Caribbean diaspora’s contribution to Canadian society, Ambassador David Devine said at his credential presentation last week.

According to Devine, Canada is advancing security cooperation with CARICOM countries through the Anti-Crime Capacity Building Programme, which covers areas like drugs, human trafficking interdiction, combating violent organized crime and police and judicial reforms.

“We will continue to build on the, historical, friendly partnership that our countries have sustained in both the economic as well as political and security arenas,” Devine said.

Canada had a “strong interest” in strengthening public security across the region, Devine said.
