The Westin Dawn Beach Resort & Spa in St Maarten has appointed former professional hockey player Denis Herron as international sales manager.

His responsibilities in the role include working with tour operators and travel agents in the U.S., Canada, France, and South America, and representing the resort at trade shows in various cities across North America and France.

Prior to his hotel career, Herron played in the National Hockey League for 14 years as goaltender for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens.

“I always enjoy the challenge my job brings every day,” said Herron. “I strive to make every negotiation a win-win for all.”

Before joining the Westin, Herron worked with Radisson Aruba and Radisson Blu in St Maarten.

During that time he won the Vezina and Jennings Trophies.

According to Herron, the transition from hockey to the travel industry was a natural one, as he stayed at many hotels and experienced many different brands throughout his sports career, giving him a feel for what makes a great resort experience.
