Each Thursday this month, the Perez Art Museum Miami will be presenting a series of videos and films that “challenge conventional notions” of the Caribbean region.

At the Crossroads: Critical Film and Video from the Caribbean, looks at “images and stories inspired by the cultural, social, and political complexities of the Caribbean.”

The opening event on Thursday night screened two films: A Natural History 5 Sequence 2 (2014) by Oneika Russell and Rockers (1978), directed by Theodoros Bafaloukos.

Russell, a young Jamaican artist, crafted A Natural History 5 Sequence 2 as a series of short video animations giving a “contemporary perspective in Jamaican culture and its diaspora.”

Rockers was one of the first films to introduce reggae to the world, after Jimmy Cliff’s groundbreaking The Harder They Come in 1972.

The series continues next Thursday at the PAMM museum at 7:00 PM.
