Caribbean Eats: At Curacao’s Tempo Doeloe, a Taste of Indonesia

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - May 10, 2014 - 6:01 pm

CURACAO’s long colonial Dutch history has, among other things, led to a cornucopia of culinary experiences available on the island.

That means that, wherever you go on the island, you can find a wide variety of flavours from the Netherlands, the wider Caribbean, South America and, interestingly, Indonesia.

That brings us to the relatively new Tempo Doeloe eatery in the Piscadera neighbourhood, an “Oriental” restaurant specializing in the many tastes of Indonesia.

The rather inspired, eclectically designed eatery (which also includes some dishes from Thailand) offers everything from classic Satay to meatballs with coconut and chili soy dip to deep fried wontons with ground breef and shrimp and pangsit sauce.

It’s all accompanied by classic sticky rice and enough to sauces to keep you tastebuds guessing throughout the meal.

We definitely recommend the “Sate Mix,” a group of satay skewers of various proteins including lamb and chicken.
