Antigua PM Heads to New York

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer is leading a delegation to the UN General Assembly this week.

Spencer’s visit comes as Antigua’s own John Ashe readies to serve as President of the current session of the General Assembly.

Spencer will also be holding a series of “meet and greet” receptions for members of the Diaspora in the northeastern United States, with planned stops in Philadelphia and at City College and the Antigua and Barbuda Progressive Society at the Schomburg Centre, both in New York.

Spencer will then hold a town hall meeting at the Prince of Peace Moravian Church in Miami Gardens, Fla.

A government statement said Spencer would hold talks with a number of Foreign Ministers while in New York, including from Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Italy, New Zealand and Japan.

Spencer will additionally meet with Organization of American States Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza.

The Antiguan delegation includes National Security and Labour Minister Dr Errol Cort, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Economy, Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shawn Nicholas, Director General of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Anthony Liverpool and Youth Representative Damani Tabor.

The government said the delegation’s working visit was sponsored by South South News.
