Grenada’s Government Working to Deliver Chinese-Built Homes

Grenada’s government is working to deliver 351 homes built by China to the public, according to Housing Minister Delma Thomas.

The houses were handed over to the government last year, but could not be handed out because they were not fitted with sewage amenities and electricity.

Thomas said the government was now looking to address the issues before delivering the homes.

“I met with the former Chinese Ambassador, who gave the assurance that they will see how they can assist,” she said. The plan is to distribute the homes within the next five months.

China has reportedly told the government that it will build a second phase of homes for Grenadians affected by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, a storm which devastated the country and destroyed 29,000 homes.
