Canadian charter carrier Air Transat has concluded an exploratory visit to Haiti, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The visit, which came at the invitation of the Ministry, lasted from Nov. 14 to Nov. 18.

It followed a visit by Haiti Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin to Montreal last August, when she met with officials from Air Transat.

The purpose of the trip was reportedly to examine the potential for offering package deals for travel to Haiti.

The officials’ trip included visits to Jacmel, Port-au-Prince and Cote-des-Arcadins, where the Regional Council presented the company with a a potential tourism zone.

The firm’s representatives reportedly communicated to the Ministry that they would be sending a “positive” report to the company, and plan to continue to work with Haiti’s tourism sector.

Air Transat is the leading charter carrier in Canada, carrying more than 2.5 million passengers to 90 destinations in 25 countries each year.
