Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie Wednesday announced the appointment of the country’s new ambassadors to the United Nations, Cuba and the United Kingdom.

Alma Adams has been named the country’s new resident ambassador to Cuba; Dr Eugene Newry is the Bahamas’ new ambassador to the United Nations and Ed Bethel is the country’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, resident in London.

Adams is the Bahamas’ former Consul General in Miami.

Newry previously served as the country’s ambassador to Haiti.

Bethel, a longtime journalist, will be accredited to France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Greece and the European Union.

“Our foreign policy team is strengthened by these men and women who understand the need to be ambassadors for our country and also play a role in bringing new investment to our country,” Christie said at a press conference Wednesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “This is an experienced diplomatic team.”

Adams and Bethel will begin their postings by Nov. 1.
