The Nassau Cruise Port Just Made History Again

By: Alexander Britell - March 13, 2024

Nassau’s booming cruise port just made history again on Tuesday, when a record-breaking seven ships called on the recently-revamped downtown port.

More than 20,000 passengers came to Bahamian shores on ships including Carnival Liberty, Vision of the Seas, Disney Wish, Independence of the Seas, Sea Cloud Spirit, Carnival Paradise, and Carnival Elation.

It was a new record, just 10 months after the ribbon-cutting on the completely transformed Nassau Cruise Port last Spring.

The new port includes everything from an amphitheater to a Junkanoo Museum to six upgraded berths, all of which can accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world.

“This is a historic moment for The Bahamas and Nassau Cruise Port,” said Marques Williams, operations manager at the port. “It’s the first time we’ve had seven ships in port on the same day. This achievement is all thanks to a lot of teamwork. I have to give a big shout-out to the Nassau Harbour Pilot Association – they did a fantastic job maneuvering these vessels into port.”

The port is part of a resurgent Bahamian capital, one that has seen a dramatic renaissance in the last decade, from a walkable, attraction-filled downtown to sparkling new hotels like the Margaritaville Beach Resort and the reimagined British Colonial, the latter of which just officially reopened.
