Usain Bolt surged ahead to take his semifinal heat in 9.87, a number that could have been faster as Bolt appeared to slow up and look around before crossing the finish line.

Fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake also dominated his heat, storming to an even faster 9.85 in the last of three semifinal heats.

Blake’s was the second-fastest heat in the semifinals.

Powell finished third in 9.94 seconds as the United States’ Justin Gatlin took first place in his heat followed by the Netherlands’ Churandy Martina. Gatlin ran in 9.82, the top semifinal mark.

While Powell finished third, his time managed to quality for the 100m final.

Bolt, Blake and Powell had each won their initial heats on Saturday.

It will make for a very interesting final Sunday night.

Trinidad’s Richard Thompson also qualified for the final.
