One of the Caribbean’s fastest-growing destinations has appointed a new Minister of Tourism, Caribbean Journal has learned.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, which has been seeing surging tourism numbers since the opening of its new Sandals resort last year, has named Dr. Kishore Shallow to the role, in what we’ve called the “Sandals Effect.”

Shallow was most recently the president of Cricket West Indies.

“The Tourism Authority is honoured to welcome Dr. Shallow as our new Minister. His proven

leadership, modern outlook, and deep commitment to national transformation align perfectly with the direction in which our tourism product is headed,” said Annette Park, CEO of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority. “We look forward to working closely with him to further elevate our destination, strengthen our markets, expand our maritime opportunities, and build on the tremendous momentum already underway.”

The archipelago has been seeing strong arrivals and growth in new flights, with routes from carriers ranging from American Airlines to JetBlue now operating from the mainland United States.

There are starfruit on this path, a short stroll past the koi pond and the turtles. The yoga class just finished, and I’m walking through a canopy of green, hearing nothing but tropical birdsong. I’m hidden away in a lush garden in Providenciales, when I run into a collection of bright-yellow carambola fruits — with a […]
