The Riviera Nayarit’s Airport Is Getting Its First International Flight
The Mexican state of Nayarit, home to the in-demand travel hotspot of the Riviera Nayarit, will officially join the international air travel map this summer, with the launch of a new nonstop flight connecting Los Angeles International Airport and Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport, Caribbean Journal has learned.
Beginning July 16, air carrier Volaris will operate three weekly flights between Los Angeles and Tepic, marking the first-ever international service to the recently expanded airport. Flights will depart LAX on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:37 a.m., arriving in Tepic at 2:27 p.m. The return flight will leave Tepic at 6:50 p.m., arriving in Los Angeles at 9:48 p.m.
The milestone follows the successful test landing of an international flight at TPQ on April 16, part of a broader effort to improve regional air connectivity. “This significant milestone heralds a new era of connectivity and opportunity for the region, promising to unlock the untapped potential of the northern coast and the majestic mountains of the Sierra Madres,” said Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, Nayarit’s Minister of Tourism.
Los Angeles represents a key tourism market for Nayarit, a state that bills itself as the “Destination of the Major Leagues.”
The region made headlines last year when it was named the first official travel destination of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The newly expanded airport in Tepic will feature upgraded immigration services, including a digital entry process aimed at reducing wait times for arriving international passengers.
The area is best known as the home of the luxe Punta Mita development, home to one of the hemisphere’s top Four Seasons resorts and a major golf course.
