The Bahamas Is Hosting a Food and Craft Festival on This Island

By: Caitlin Sullivan - February 27, 2025 - 4:01 pm

The Bahamas is hosting a celebration of Bahamian culture this weekend with the Food and Craft Festival on Eleuthera.

The event, put on by the country’s Ministry of Tourism, runs March 1 from noon to midnight at the Rock Sound Campus of Eleuthera’s Center for Training and Innovation, which is an extension of the One Eleuthera Foundation (some of whose initiatives we’ve written about).

“The Food and Craft Festival exemplifies the vibrant spirit and rich traditions of The Bahamas,” said Bahamas Tourism Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper.“It is a

unique opportunity for residents and visitors alike to come together, celebrate our culture, and support our talented artisans and entrepreneurs. Events like these showcase the heart of our islands, and we look forward to creating lasting memories with all attendees.”

You can enjoy everything from authentic Bahamian crafts to local produce to a new addition: sushi.

That will include a performance by the Eleuthera Music Masters Marching Band, which is a group of students from schools across the island — and the reigning champions of the national Battle of the Bands competition.

That’s along with a “Sip and Paste” demo that explores the art of Junkanoo costume pasting; and live performances by artists like Puzzle and Niche LS.

If you want to attend, a great way is by staying at The Retreat, the hospitality training school that’s also one of the island’s coolest small hotels and is part of the One Eleuthera Foundation
