Major Caribbean Sea Earthquake Causes Shaking in Cayman Islands, Belize

There were reports of shaking in Cayman and Belize.

A 7.6-magnitude earthquake in the Caribbean Sea caused shaking across a number of countries in the region on Saturday night. 

The quake’s epicenter was about 134 miles southwest of the Cayman Islands in the heart of the Caribbean Sea, according to data from the United States Geological Survey. 

It occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the tremor taking place at 6:23 eastern time. 

There were reports of shaking in Belize, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, along with Montserrat, Honduras and parts of the Mexican Caribbean. 

So far, the reports of shaking have only been light to moderate. There were even some reports in Florida.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries resulting from the quake. 

It’s also not yet clear if there is a tsunami threat.
