This Under-the-Radar Airport in Jamaica Is Getting Daily Flights on American Airlines

By: Guy Britton - November 23, 2024 - 8:42 pm

It’s the birthplace of Bond, and the home of some of Jamaica’s coolest hotels: Ocho Rios on the northern coast of the island.

Now, after a successful launch of nonstop flights from Miami (the route kicked off earlier this year) the tiny Ian Fleming International Airport on the outskirts of town is about to get daily service.

Beginning Dec. 5, American will be flying every day between Miami and Ian Fleming airport, in a big boost for one of the island’s most popular hotel and cruise destinations — and one that has always taken almost two hours to drive from Montego Bay.

The airport is named after Fleming, the legendary author of the James Bond novels, who conceived of the character and wrote all of the books at his Goldeneye estate in nearby Oracabessa — a property that is now one of Jamaica’s top luxury hotels. Rooms starting at $492.

Ocho Rios is also home to another one of the island’s celebrated resorts, the venerable, all-inclusive Jamaica Inn, a beachfront resort that oozes historic charm. Rooms from $447.

So how much will the new daily flights cost?

Right now, you can book roundtrip Miami-Ocho Rios flights for $382 in the main cabin, and $682 roundtrip in business class.

The flight takes about one hour and 55 minutes.
