From JetBlue to American Airlines, Antigua Set for Big Increase in US Flights

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 31, 2024

From its seemingly infinite number of perfect white-sand beaches to an enviable collection of luxury all-inclusive resorts to a dynamic culinary scene, there’s a reason travelers are flocking to the twin-island hotspot of Antigua and Barbuda.

The big airlines clearly see that too — and the major United States-based carriers are significantly ramping up their flights to the destination.

It starts with American Airlines, which is planning to expand to daily nonstop flights from Charlotte to Antigua beginning Dec. 5, which will continue throughout the winter season. AA’s New York-Antigua flights will also operate daily in the winter.

American’s already-strong Miami-Antigua service will continue with two daily flights throughout the summer and winter, with year-round flight out of MIA.

Then there is Delta Air Lines, which is set to increase service out of Atlanta to twice weekly during the winter seasons in 2024 and 2025.

New York City-based JetBlue will be increasing its flights between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Antigua from three times each week to daily nonstop service beginning this summer.

United, too, will be running daily service to Antigua this winter.

“We are enjoying increases in airlift from our established markets, with the US continuing to show the most expansion, with more daily flights added for the critical summer and winter months,” said Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez in a statement provided to Caribbean Journal. “We’re excited that American Airlines will be offering daily flights into Antigua from JFK and Charlotte in the winter and maintaining double daily services from Miami, boosting air connectivity through the carrier’s major hubs.”

The announcements came after a busy trip to the recent Routes Americas conference in Bogota, which gathered the world’s top airlines and tourist boards for a full schedule of meetings and negotiations.

Antigua is getting more new flights as the destination prepares for what should be a busy spring season: the highly-anticipated new Royalton CHIC is set to open its doors in April, while the instantly popular new Antigua & Barbuda Restaurant Week will kick off May 4, highlighting the destination’s sizzling gastronomic movement.
