Whether you’re jaguar-spotting on the rivers of the Sarstoon-Temash National Park or beach-hopping on the white-sand shorelines of Ambergris Caye, Belize is as diverse a destination as you can find in the wider Caribbean region.

And did we mention the nearly 200 miles of coral reefs?

In recent years, Belize’s unique blend of jungle and beach, history and innovation and remarkably multifaceted hotel product (a blend of eco-lodges, all-inclusive resorts, luxury hotels and private-island destinations) have turned the country on the Caribbean coast of Central America into one of the hemisphere’s buzziest hotspots.

Now, it’s even easier to get there, thanks to a new flight that just launched this week.

New York’s JetBlue Airways has officially kicked off its first-ever flights to Belize, with new service between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City.

The new nonstop service is operating three times per week, with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“We’re thrilled to add Belize to our growing network and offer our customers more choices to experience unique and popular destinations,” said David Jehn, the vice president for network planning and airline partnerships at JetBlue. “Adding nonstop service to Belize enhances our presence in Latin America and the Caribbean and demonstrates our commitment to introducing our low fares and great service to more destinations and customers.”

JetBlue is the latest United States-based carrier to add new flights to Belize, a nod to the growing demand for a Belize getaway among American travelers. More than 250,000 Americans have traveled to Belize so far this year, almost 70 percent of all visitors to the country.

The flight between New York and Belize takes between four and five hours.

“We’re confident the beauty of our environment, the richness of our diverse culture, and the warmth of our people will leave New Yorkers wanting to return again soon,” said Belize Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler.
