San Juan, Puerto Rico Air Passenger Traffic Tops 11 Million

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 7, 2023

Passenger traffic at San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport has topped 11 million so far this year, according to newly-released data from ASUR, which manages the airport.

Air passenger trafic at San Juan’s major air hub is 11,088,144, a 19.1 percent increase compared to the first 11 months of 2022, when traffic stood at 9.31 million.

That was buoyed by another strong month in November ,when passenger traffic reached 956,505, itself a 10.4 percent increase over the same period last year.

Notably, passenger traffic, typically a small percentage of air traffic in Puerto Rico, was just under 100,000 last month, a sizable 27.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Indeed, international traffic in Puerto Rico is up 42.5 percent compared to 2022, driven in part by expanded service on carriers like Spain’s Iberia and expanding traffic from the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

ASUR manages San Juan’s airport and Cancun International Airport as part of its broader portfolio of regional airports.
