This Turks and Caicos-Based Airline Is Expanding Again

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 15, 2023

Turks and Caicos-based Caribbean airline InterCaribbean Airways is expanding its fleet, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The carrier, which has been rapidly expanding its flight network across the northern and southern Caribbean, has closed on the acquisition of an additional seven ATR-42 aircraft.

The 48-seat aircraft were acquired from Romanian airline TAROM.

“We are delighted to introduce these capable aircraft, boldly expanding our capacity and operational flexibility,” said Lyndon Gardiner, chairman of InterCaribbean Airways. “These aircraft will allow us to implement our commitments to expand in under-served markets, especially in the eastern Caribbean.”

The company said it would soon be adding capacity for the summer season, which sees strong numbers for intra-regional travel.

InterCaribbean’s network connects 28 cities across 17 countries in the Caribbean, from Nassau to the north and Guyana to the south.

InterCaribbean has been embarking on an expansion from its new hub in Barbados, reporting an 83 percent increase in the number of flights and a 109 percent increase in seating capacity on its routes.
