Aruba’s Top Resort Just Created a New Nature Preserve

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 26, 2023

It is getting harder and harder to find undeveloped green space on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba.

But thanks to a major donation by Aruba’s top resort, the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, the island is getting a new nature preserve.

Bucuti Tara’s CEO, Ewald Biemans, joined by friend Grete Marie Case, has donated 30 acres of private land in Aruba as a new nature preserve for the public.

The land is convenient to the Noord area of Aruba, and represents the last remaining undeveloped private land in the area.

Instead of serving as the home of a new hotel or high-rise development, it will be Aruba’s newest park.

The new “Bucuti Tara – GMC Park” is a typical Aruban ecosystem: that means as many as 280 different bird species and a quiet, serene place for walking, jogging and enjoying the island’s indigenous trees.

“As a long practitioner of sustainability and the Caribbean’s first certified carbon-neutral hotel, Bucuti & Tara’s milestone anniversary gives us an opportunity to recognize 35 years of extremely positive impact to Aruba’s people and economy, and we wish to continue that by reforesting the area with indigenous trees in celebration for future generations to enjoy,” Biemans said.

The announcement comes as the hotel is marking its 35th anniversary this year.
