IHG Is Expanding Fast in Mexico, With New Kimpton Resorts, Hotel Indigo Openings, and More voco Hotels

IHG Hotels and Resorts is planning a major expansion across Mexico, with dozens of new hotels in the pipeline and a growing collection of luxury, lifestyle and premium properties from Cancun and Playa del Carmen to Mexico City and Baja California Sur.
The company says Mexico is now its fifth-largest market worldwide by hotel count and rooms, with 187 hotels and about 30,000 rooms already open across the country. Another 62 hotels with 8,600 rooms are currently in development.
The pipeline includes new Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, InterContinental, voco, Holiday Inn Express and avid hotels, part of what IHG says is a broader push to increase its presence across Mexico’s resort destinations and major cities.
“Mexico’s strong regional and global travel flows and growing domestic demand make it one of the most compelling hospitality markets in the Americas,” said IHG CEO Elie Maalouf.
More Kimpton and Hotel Indigo Hotels
Among the biggest upcoming projects is the forthcoming Kimpton Tres Rios in the Riviera Maya, an all-inclusive resort that will add another luxury option to one of Mexico’s busiest tourism corridors. That property is slated to open in September.
IHG also recently opened the Hotel Indigo Playa del Carmen, as Caribbean Journal reported, expanding the lifestyle brand’s footprint in the Mexican Caribbean.
On the Pacific coast, the company has already opened Kimpton Mas Olas Todos Santos in Baja California Sur, another addition to the growing luxury hotel market in Todos Santos.
The pipeline also includes the planned Six Senses Xala in Costalegre, currently projected to debut in 2027.
IHG is also bringing the InterContinental brand back to Monterrey while preparing to open the new InterContinental Miyana Mexico City.
A Big Expansion for voco
One of the company’s fastest-growing brands in Mexico is voco.
IHG recently announced plans for six new voco hotels in Cancun, Guadalajara, Ciudad Juarez, San Luis Potosi, Torreon and Nuevo Laredo. The company is also preparing to open voco Ciudad de Mexico Reforma.
The voco brand has become a major part of IHG’s expansion strategy globally, particularly through conversions in high-demand urban and leisure markets.
Voco is also, according to sources, going to be a major part of the company’s all-inclusive push.
More Midscale Hotels
IHG is also continuing to grow its midscale portfolio across Mexico.
Recent openings include the new Holiday Inn Express Condesa Mexico City, the avid hotel Guadalajara Aeropuerto Norte and the launch of the company’s Garner hotels brand in Mazatlan.
IHG says it has added more than 6,000 rooms across 14 brands in Mexico during the last five years.
Mexico Remains a Major Growth Market
IHG’s history in Mexico dates back to 1970, when the first Holiday Inn Acapulco opened.
Now the company says it sees continued opportunity across resort destinations, regional markets and major urban centers.
“Mexico continues to stand out as a dynamic travel and tourism market,” said Michael Hoe Knudsen, managing director for Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean at IHG Hotels and Resorts.
IHG is also opening a new regional headquarters in Guadalajara this spring, with plans to grow staffing there from 40 employees to 200 by the end of 2026.
